Year 9 High Achievers Visit Carmel College

On Monday 22nd June some of our Year 9 students visited Carmel College for a High Achievers Day. The day at the college was experienced in various ways by the students and they explain their experience of the day in their own words below:

"We split off into our designated subjects where we learned about what college is like, the topics you would be studying and the skills that we would be using. I was put in History/Law/Politics where we did about the Berlin Wall, political parties, court cases, etc"

"I spent the day doing languages. We started off doing Spanish, then French and learning a new language Mandarin. It was really fun to learn about China and learn Chinese in the process. We ended the day by talking about the opportunities you can have by taking a language. I also met new people that hopefully I will go to college with one day"

"We went to Carmel College to have a taster of what they do. I did A-level and Btec PE and then we interviewed two Everton Under 18 players who were soon to become professionals"

"Today I learned about many things in Science. Things such as different parts of the body, both bones and organs. I also learned how to separate hydrogen from acids"

"Today I have learned a lot about where I can go in the future. I was mainly focussed on Law, History and Politics. We learned about what we would do if we took the course and had fun while learning. The teachers got everyone involved and made it clear that at Carmel everyone is hard-working. It was a really good experience and a really good day"

"Today I learned a lot about business. The activities included business, economics, computing and A-level statistics. I thought the day was good and quite informative. It also made me think more about whether I would like to go to Carmel College and think about my future"

"Today at Carmel College I spent the day doing English and Media lessons. We started by doing an activity called 'prop box' where we had to pick a prop from a box and write about who you think would own that prop. Then, we did evaluation of posters where we said what a movie poster made us think about along with poems and watching some movie trailers made by past students"

"Today I learned some things to do with statistics like probability. I coded in the computers to make a rocket go up, stop, and go back to the place it started at"

The college commented to our staff when they were leaving that the students had been fantastic and had been a credit to the school.
