St.Helens Reporter Education Awards 2015

Haydock High School has submitted two entries for the Education Awards 2015 in the 'Creative Arts Award' and 'Sports Achievement Award' categories. The awards presentation evening will take place on Thursday 3rd December at Carmel College and we now have to hope that we are shortlisted in either (or both) categories.

The Art department at Haydock created their own poppy display to mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War - 100 poppies for 100 years. Over a number of weeks students and staff worked with the Art department to create the poppies. These were then displayed in the front garden of the school enabling visitors to walk through the design as they made their way to the Remembrance Service in 2014. The design was Haydock High School's take on the amazing installation 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' which have filled the moat at the Tower of London.

Haydock High School recently won the 'School of the Year' category in the North West English Schools Rugby League Celebration Awards. The selection panel decided that Haydock was the most deserving candidate for the award and to show their appreciation for the hard work during the last year, they invited the players to the 2015 Champion Schools National finals day which were held in in London in August 2015.

Five of Haydock High's students also signed for Rugby League Scholarships:
Matthew Foster – St Helens
Brandon Scully – St Helens
Ryan Forshaw – Wigan
Jack Kennedy – Wigan
Aaron Hughes – Widnes

It is not just rugby that Haydock High School excels at though... Haydock encourages Sports Leaders. Over the last 12 months we have had many primary sports events where a large number of our studentshave led pupils, supported events and organised activities for our feeder schools. There are far too many to mention as our sports leaders are not only amazing they are an inspiration to our younger students and role models in our community.

The pace of curriculum change continues to accelerate, for example introducing a more flexible Key Stage 3. Our constant planning offers confidence for successful delivery and assessment of these areas.

Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.
