St Helens Youth Council Meeting
On Thursday 21st March, our co-chairs of Haydock High School Council attended the first St Helens Youth Council Meeting of the year at St Helens Town Hall. Rosie Bell and Summer Harrison were treated to a private tour of the building, which was generously delivered by the Deputy Leader of St Helens Council, Sue Murphy. The girls then went on to meet other delegates and a busy day of democratic selection lay ahead of them.
Students from across the borough gathered and discussed why they wanted to be part of St Helens Youth council. Rosie and Summer spoke about wanting equality for all members of our society and how they hoped to one day change the world into a better place, by having a say and implementing small changes.
Delegates were asked to put forward an issue that they felt was necessary to address and tackle as a Youth Council. Many spoke about young people’s mental health and other poignant issues for today’s teenagers. It was democratically decided that 'knife crime' would be the focus for the Youth Council and something that all members of the council could agree was a real issue in today’s society.
Haydock High have a #nomoreknives campaign already within school, during assemblies and PSHE lessons, so this was a subject with a great deal of relevance for our students. The Council aim to promote their campaign throughout the year and focus on the impact that knife crime has on our communities.
After this came the vote for the Chair, Deputy Chair and the Secretary for the council. Three P.O.S.H (Pioneer of Sustainable Hope) Ambassadors for St Helens Youth Council were also elected and Haydock High School are delighted to announce that Rosie Bell was one of three delegates chosen to take on this role. We look forward to supporting and working with Rosie to see how we as a school can become more green and sustainable.

Haydock Curriculum
The pace of curriculum change continues to accelerate, for example introducing a more flexible Key Stage 3. Our constant planning offers confidence for successful delivery and assessment of these areas.
Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.

Haydock Leisure Centre
Facilities With a £250,000 refurbishment in 2006, the PE department and Leisure Centre were refurbished to accommodate more people and classes, offering a wide range of activities to students and the wider community. The changing rooms are of a high standard with disabled access, automatic showers and private cubicles. Sports Hall The Sports Hall can accommodate the following: 5 a side football, whole Sports Hall Cricket, whole Sports Hall Badminton, whole or half Sports Hall Keep Fit and much more.
