Remembrance Service
On Wednesday 11th November, Haydock High School held its annual Remembrance Service in the Drama Theatre. Members of the local community attended the event and the service was led by Rev Paul Cliff from the Ebenezer Independent Methodist Church in Haydock. Visitors had the opportunity to look at the War Exhibition created by Year 9 Art students followed by a Drama performance and refreshments. The Art Club had been inspired by Mrs McKenna to make paintings on stones and they created a display "Lest We Forget" for the service with painted poppies on the stones.
During the service prayers were said for those who had fallen during the wars and a poppy wreath was laid at the cross. The Reveille was played as a minutes silence was kept out of respect for all those who had lost their lives during the wars. The names of the war dead from the local community were read out before students took part in dance and drama performances based around the theme of the morning. Visitors were then able to enjoy refreshments as both young and older members of the community mingled together.
Ex-student Mrs Iris Worsley attended the annual Remembrance Service with her close friend Miss Irene Cook. Mrs Worsley, a spritely 92 years young, spoke briefly to reception staff about how she met her husband, Richard, an ex-Grenadier and ‘Desert Rat’ who was unfortunately wounded in Italy during the war. Richard was brought home to England on the Dutch ship Aorangi where he was treated at Baguley Hospital (now known as Wythenshawe), and where he met his future wife, Nurse Iris Worsley. It was a privilege to hear this lovely lady’s first-hand account of how she met and married her husband, in her words, “straight from a Mills and Boon novel”.

Haydock Curriculum
The pace of curriculum change continues to accelerate, for example introducing a more flexible Key Stage 3. Our constant planning offers confidence for successful delivery and assessment of these areas.
Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.

Haydock Leisure Centre
Facilities With a £250,000 refurbishment in 2006, the PE department and Leisure Centre were refurbished to accommodate more people and classes, offering a wide range of activities to students and the wider community. The changing rooms are of a high standard with disabled access, automatic showers and private cubicles. Sports Hall The Sports Hall can accommodate the following: 5 a side football, whole Sports Hall Cricket, whole Sports Hall Badminton, whole or half Sports Hall Keep Fit and much more.
