Holocaust Memorial Day
On Wednesday 27th January a group of Year 9 students attended a service at St Helens Town Hall to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. The group was one of many representing numerous schools in St Helens and helped to honour the day that marks the liberation of the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. As part of the students attendance at the service, Alex Robinson was asked to read a section of the poem ‘Lighting of the Candles’, along with the Mayor of St Helens and students from other schools. The theme of the service was ‘Don’t Stand By’, and many of the performances and contributions focused on that particular theme. It was a very moving service and a pleasure for the school to be a part of. After the service the students spoke of how it was important to remember the Holocaust in order to understand the part they can play in challenging hatred and creating a safer and better future.
