Career Inspiration for Language Students

A group of eight Year 10 and 11 Haydock linguists attended a Languages Work event at Cowley International College to learn first-hand from Helen Stevenson of Satis Education how languages can have an impact on your career pathway.
Helen, originally from St. Helens, talked students through from her humble beginnings in a part-time job in a bar in London whilst at university, to now owning her own company and how being a linguist has been instrumental in the opportunities she has been offered.
Students were able to learn about how Helen worked in marketing, finance and as a teacher, all career choices that have been possible through her study of languages at GCSE, A Level and degree.
The event highlighted the wealth of different skills language learning gives, such as communication skills, confidence, cultural awareness, higher level thinking skills and being able to multi-task effectively - all great attributes for a career.
Students came away with ideas of future pathways and possible careers, as well as a renewed enthusiasm for travel, working abroad and the continuation of their languages journey!
