Haydock High School students celebrate great GCSE results

Students from Haydock High School have been celebrating another great set of GCSE results this year.

The five A*- C figure with English and Maths has increased by 6% from 2015 and the Attainment 8 score which measures students’ results across arrange of subjects, has increased by 5 points.

The results are testimony to the hard work of Haydock students and staff and underline the school’s determination to help every student achieve the highest possible standards. Many will now progress on to their career choices, or on to further education. We are delighted that 12% of all grades achieved were A* or A. In many departments over a third of students achieved A*/A grades including Media, Biology, and Physics. In Music over a third of students achieved a distinction. English results were particularly strong with 72% of students making 3 levels of progress and 42% of students making 4 levels of progress.

As always Results Day brought many reasons to celebrate for so many Haydock High School students and we are delighted with the final outcomes for our students. The great commitment and focus of our Year 11 cohort, supported intensively by staff, paid off with many individuals achieving, and in some cases surpassing, their personal goals and Outstanding Progress Targets. We were delighted with performance in several areas and these results reflect the outstanding progress made by our students across all their subjects

Headteacher Mr Murphy said: “I am delighted that we have so much to celebrate and we are proud of the children’s achievements. Strong and improving results in many subjects have been achieved through working relentlessly to ensure that students were fully focused on fulfilling their potential, and many achieved outstanding personal results, a great reflection of their abilities and the support of those teachers that have nurtured them during their time at Haydock High School. As always, these results open doors for them as they move onto the next stage in their lives, and they certainly have a great platform on which they can now build. Results like these are only achieved when students, staff, parents and Governors work closely and supportively together, and I would like to extend my thanks and congratulations to everyone who made such a great contribution across the Haydock community.”

Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.
