Haydock High School Students Celebrate GCSE Results
Students from Haydock have been celebrating another strong set of GCSE results this year.
Students taking GCSEs across England this summer received a mixture of number (9 to 1) and letter grades (A* to G) with new GCSEs graded from 9 to 1, with 9 being the top grade. English Language, English Literature and Mathematics are the first GCSE subjects to use the new number grading system, with almost all other GCSE subjects adopting the number grading system by 2019.
In all, 13 subjects improved on their A*-C figures from 2016, and 5 departments exceeded national figures against this benchmark – Art 78%, Biology 91%, Chemistry 91%, Music 100% and PE 69%. Additionally, 50% of Spanish students attained an A or A* grade.
A number of results will be subject to appeal this year, but at present, 64% of students in English and 56% of students in Mathematics achieved at least a standard pass (a grade 4 or above).
Headteacher Ian Murphy said: ‘I am delighted that we are able to celebrate these results with our students. Strong and improving results – in terms of the percentage of students attaining C+ grades - in many subjects have been achieved through working relentlessly to ensure that students were fully focused on fulfilling their potential, and many achieved great personal results, a reflection both of their abilities and the support of those teachers that have supported them during their time at Haydock High School. As always, these results open doors for them as they move onto the next stage in their lives, and they certainly have a platform on which they can now build. Results are only achieved when students, staff, parents and Governors work closely and supportively together, and I would like to extend my thanks and congratulations to everyone who made such a great contribution.
Our priority moving forward will be to ensure that every student, in every subject, at every grade boundary fulfils their potential.’

Haydock Curriculum
The pace of curriculum change continues to accelerate, for example introducing a more flexible Key Stage 3. Our constant planning offers confidence for successful delivery and assessment of these areas.
Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.

Haydock Leisure Centre
Facilities With a £250,000 refurbishment in 2006, the PE department and Leisure Centre were refurbished to accommodate more people and classes, offering a wide range of activities to students and the wider community. The changing rooms are of a high standard with disabled access, automatic showers and private cubicles. Sports Hall The Sports Hall can accommodate the following: 5 a side football, whole Sports Hall Cricket, whole Sports Hall Badminton, whole or half Sports Hall Keep Fit and much more.
