Haydock High Year 11s are North West RL Champions 2017

After bitter disappointment in last year’s North West Counties Final, the Year 11 Haydock Rugby League team made amends by beating St Peters of Wigan 34-20 at the Halton Stadium, home of the Widnes Vikings, crowning them North West Champions 2017.
After going behind 10-0 early in the first half, Haydock fought back to go into the lead at half time and the team continued to play well into the second half, with great attacking presence and scramble defence which kept them in front for the rest of the game. It was an excellent performance from all the players involved, but the plaudits must go to George Hannan who ‘stepped up a year, as well as to Jack Kennedy and man of the match Ryan Forshaw, who narrowly edged out Matthew Foster to the award.
Mr Kehoe, PE Teacher and Head Coach said: “The result pays testament to the hard work, dedication and abilities of the team. This couldn’t have been done without the support and understanding of the school and the parents of the students. I would also like to thank my fellow members of staff, Mr Wright and Mr White, for all their help as well as Matt Johnston, a former student at Haydock, who has been coming down to help train the lads. Hopefully they can continue their good form into the quarter finals of the upcoming national stage of the competition.”
Everyone at Haydock High would like to congratulate all those involved in the momentous win; both staff and students alike.
