Haydock High Christmas Markets 2016

On Monday 19th December 2016, Haydock High held a community Christmas event throughout the day which involved students, primary school children and the wider Haydock community. In the morning, primary school children came to partake in a variety of different Christmas activities. They began with an English workshop, led by Mrs Fletcher and four of our English department, teaching the children about ‘A Christmas Carol’. After this they watched a Drama performance and were then able to shop for crafts in the Christmas market. Their visit was brought to a close with a visit from Father Christmas, where the children were all given a gift.
The wider Haydock community was also invited to come along, where they also saw a Drama performance and some Music performances as well. The markets were then open for the community to browse before Christmas Bingo began in the LRC.
Haydock students were given the opportunity to peruse the stalls during an extended lunch break. The students could purchase homemade items such as paintings, cupcakes and candle holders from the market; they were given a warm cup of Christmas Vimto and biscuits upon entry to the markets.
Mrs Barker, PE teacher and KS2/3 Transition Manager at Haydock High, said: “The Christmas Markets yesterday were amazing. I want to say a massive thank you to Mrs Fletcher and her team. She has worked extremely hard to organise such a lovely community event. The primary school children were treated to some wonderful activities and all went home with happy little faces as well as lots of chocolate! I can’t begin to imagine how much work went into this and the feeling of the Haydock community spirit was overwhelming. Thank you so much.”
Everyone at Haydock High would like to thank Mrs Fletcher for organising the event, as well as everyone who contributed to the brilliant execution of a day that exemplified the Christmas ideals of community, fun and charity. We would also like to thank Lansbury Bridge School for coming to the markets, Winstanley College for running a stall for our students and community, as well as St Helens College and Warrington Collegiate for donating food and pamper vouchers as prizes for our Christmas Bingo.
A special mention must also go to Year 8 student Harley Chadwick, currently fundraising for the Teenage Cancer Trust, who raised nearly £50 for the charity yesterday at the Christmas market. He is about £150 away from his £1000 target. All profits from yesterday raised by the school and the students as a collective will be donated to the Trussell Trust.
