England Rugby League call up for two Year 11 Students
Haydock High School would like to congratulate two of our Year 11 Students, Matthew Foster and Ryan Forshaw, who were called up to the England Youth Rugby League Squad for 2017 over the Easter Holidays. Based at their training camp at Bishop Burton College, the event took place between Monday 10th April and Tuesday 18th April, with the England Rugby League running youth training sessions, squad camps and two test games between England and France, with Matthew Foster being in the starting lineup for the second of the two games.
The two test games took place on Friday the 14th of April at Kingston Park, Newcastle, and Tuesday 18th April at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle Stadium, Castleford. Both games resulted in wins for England, meaning ultimately a series victory for the England Youth Squad.
Mr Murphy, Headteacher, said: ‘As proud supporters of the Rugby League, it is great for the school and the town to have such talented athletes representing our country and we are all delighted for Ryan and Matthew. We hope that their careers develop and we get to see them enhance their reputations as role models for our students, combining the discipline to be successful in sport with academic excellence.’
Everyone at Haydock High School would like to congratulate both Matthew and Ryan for being called up to the team and for being involved in the series victory over the France Youth Squad. Their determination and spirit in pursuing success in Rugby League is an inspiration and a delight for both staff and students alike at Haydock High School.
