Echo Schools Awards
Haydock High School is delighted to have been shortlisted for the Echo Schools Awards 2015 in the category "Active Community Award"
We have been shortlisted due to various activities and events which the school have been involved in - some are listed below:
- Students and staff raising an amazing amount of money for one of their Year 7 pupils Harrison Ledsham who had to have his leg amputated last year after being diagnosed with bone cancer. The whole school community were fully supportive of Harrison. Sadly, Harrison recently passed away suddenly.
- Students were involved in various activities to support Sport Relief, Comic Relief, Children in Need, Operation Christmas Child's Shoe Box Appeal, Marie Curie, AIM (Amputation, Inspiration & Motivation - to help ex-service people) and others.
- Students and IT staff designed and delivered a project for senior members of the community to come to school and be taught how to use computers and the internet.
- At Christmas the school choir and band hosted a Carol Evening at school for staff and parents they also visited local primary schools and Elderly Persons Homes to entertain people with their Christmas music.
- Students made Christmas Hampers which they then distributed around the community.
- The school also organised a Turkey and Tinsel Christmas Party event for senior members of their community.
- Every November the school hosts a Community Remembrance Service and at the last one we created our own Tower of London Poppy Field.
The school fosters a positive attitude of helping others. It actively encourages pupils through fundraising and inviting the community into school and going out into the community to consider others and work positively towards helping and supporting others. There is a very strong sense of community within the school which makes for a pleasant atmosphere.
The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday 1st July at Crowne Plaza Liverpool. We, as a school, are very excited to find out the result of the awards ceremony.

The pace of curriculum change continues to accelerate, for example introducing a more flexible Key Stage 3. Our constant planning offers confidence for successful delivery and assessment of these areas.
Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.
