Chinese New Year celebrations

On Friday 12th February Haydock High School celebrated the Chinese New Year. The celebrations were led by Mrs Bennett, the school Librarian who worked in partnership with the Art teachers, Mrs Ashburner and Mrs Fletcher. This year, Year 7 students worked exceptionally hard during their Art lessons to produce a wonderful array of Chinese inspired Art work. Dedicated students were involved in workshops in the library to learn more about the Chinese culture. Different art classes produced lanterns, fans, traditional decorations and intricate watercolour paintings developed from still life observations. The school library was taken over for the day and students were invited to come and admire the beautiful array of work and sample traditional Chinese delicacies. The Enterprise team were on standby to make sure the afternoon ran smoothly. They collected money, served food and advertised the event really well. The day culminated with a dragon which was let loose on the corridors to make sure everyone knew where the celebrations were taking place. It was a fantastic way to appreciate the achievements made by the students and to be involved in celebrating traditions from another culture. The media team led by Year 10 student Megan Downey made sure they were there to capture the celebration on camera.
