Chinese New Year celebrations at Haydock High

On Tuesday 31st January 2017, Haydock High School celebrated Chinese New Year in the LRC, where a number of activities took place to celebrate this important event in Chinese culture. The animal representative of this Chinese calendar year is the Rooster. The event was organised by Mrs Bennett, our librarian, with the school LRC being decorated with Chinese Lanterns and Year 7 artwork; a display of Chinese history and traditions. Mrs Ashburner, Head of Art, made a Chinese Dragon and some of the students wore the Chinese Dragon costume and went around school playing instruments. The students enjoyed making origami, colouring dragons and finding out what animal they were; we also had word searches and a quiz.
Mrs Bennett said: “We always hold an annual event celebrating Chinese New Year in the LRC and this year was another success, enjoyed by all students. I would like to thank Mrs Dixon, Art Technician, who helped with decorating the room and supervision on the day and also Mrs Ashburner and the Art Department who supplied us with the Art work and also the Chinese Dragon.”
Everyone at Haydock High School would like to thank Mrs Bennett for her hard work in organising this event, all staff and students who helped towards its success and the students who attended and learned more about Chinese culture and history.
