Attendance & Punctuality
Here at Haydock High School we want your child to achieve, be happy and to feel that they belong to our school community. Obviously, they need to be in school 100% of the time to achieve 100% of their potential. Just as important though is the impact poor attendance has on their self-esteem, friendship groups and relationships with staff.
A student with poor attendance will fall behind in their work, feel out of the loop with friends and it will be difficult for teachers to get to know and help them in the areas they need extra support.
Students will not achieve their best if they do not attend school regularly. Persistent or unauthorised absences from school can lead to a referral to the Education Welfare Service, Fixed Penalty Notices, Parent contracts or, in some cases, prosecution.
Authorised absences
If you are off ill or have a medical appointment, we will authorise the absence. You may be asked for medical evidence if your illness last a long time or you are regularly absent from school due to illness. Please ring school before 8.30 am on 01744 678 396 to report the absence. Otherwise, we will contact home.
Appointments should be made after school or in the holidays. Students are expected to come into school before and after appointments.
Unauthorised absences
Family birthdays, shopping, a holiday in term time, visiting relatives, watching a sports event or looking after family members will be classed as an unauthorised absence.
Punctuality
School starts at 8.40 am. You can arrive to school from 7.30 am for breakfast club. Arriving late to school before the register closes will result in a break time detention. Coming into school late after the register closes will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.
Your attendance is important to us
You cannot ACHIEVE in school if you are not here. We expect all students to aim for 100%.
100% attendance = 100% success.

96-99.9 Green
91- 95.9 Amber
< 91% Red

Attendance Rewards
We will reward students who have good or improving attendance. Students are rewarded half-termly and termly for good attendance.
Students with 100% attendance will be entered into the IPad draw at the end of the year. Students with good attendance take part in hot chocolate workshops,receive extra achievement points and can receive an early break or lunch.
Haydock High School rewards the good behaviour of students who have good attendance and work hard whilst in school. Feedback from students has been really positive and suggestions have been made by students as to what other kind of rewards they would like to be available.

Haydock Curriculum
The pace of curriculum change continues to accelerate, for example introducing a more flexible Key Stage 3. Our constant planning offers confidence for successful delivery and assessment of these areas.
Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.

Haydock Leisure Centre
Facilities With a £250,000 refurbishment in 2006, the PE department and Leisure Centre were refurbished to accommodate more people and classes, offering a wide range of activities to students and the wider community. The changing rooms are of a high standard with disabled access, automatic showers and private cubicles. Sports Hall The Sports Hall can accommodate the following: 5 a side football, whole Sports Hall Cricket, whole Sports Hall Badminton, whole or half Sports Hall Keep Fit and much more.
