Why do Schools Need Governors?
Every school has a Governing Body to represent the local community - "the stakeholders" in the running of our schools. School Governors bring external support perspectives from ordinary life, the staff and the Local Authority to help secure the best possible education for the children in the school. They have important responsibilites like managing the school budget, overseeing the curriculum and appointing staff.
What do School Governors do?
Governors work as a team to:
- promote high standards of educational attainment at their school
- set targets for student achievement
- take general responsibility for the conduct of the school
- manage the school's budget , including deciding how many staff will work there
- make sure that the National Curriculum is delivered via a broad and balanced provision
- report on students' achievement in National Curriculum assessments and examination results
- act as a 'critical friend' to the school
- be prepared to undertake training and develop their role
- participate in the appointment of senior staff (including appointing the Head Teacher) and regulate staff conduct and discipline
- draw up an action plan after an inspection by the Office of Standards in Education (OfSTED)

Haydock Curriculum
The pace of curriculum change continues to accelerate, for example introducing a more flexible Key Stage 3. Our constant planning offers confidence for successful delivery and assessment of these areas.
Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.

Haydock Leisure Centre
Facilities With a £250,000 refurbishment in 2006, the PE department and Leisure Centre were refurbished to accommodate more people and classes, offering a wide range of activities to students and the wider community. The changing rooms are of a high standard with disabled access, automatic showers and private cubicles. Sports Hall The Sports Hall can accommodate the following: 5 a side football, whole Sports Hall Cricket, whole Sports Hall Badminton, whole or half Sports Hall Keep Fit and much more.
